Chiropractic Care and McKenzie

We provide spinal correction utilizing gentle chiropractic techniques. Motion Palpation is utilized by the Dr. to identify the different spinal segments that need manipulation.  When certain cases present, Dr. DiSanti will utilize McKenzie Diagnosis and Treatment as a conjunctive therapy.  These cases usually relate to bulging or protruding intervertebral disc’s.  These newer correction methods are even safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before.  As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Matthew DiSanti has years of training and experience in spinal adjustment.

Laying the Foundation for Total Health

At Steel City Spine and Sports we approach care in a very personalized and specific way.  Whether you are looking for injury treatment or training recovery a detailed history will be taken.  At this point Dr. DiSanti will have a conversation with you that directly address your personal goals.  This will determine the intensity and frequency of treatment that will be suggested in your treatment plan.  You will never be pressured into signing up for a plan or into receiving unnecessary treatment.  We pride ourselves on getting people back to work/sport/activity as fast as possible.

Phase 1: Acute Care

If you are in pain when you come into our office the first goal is to decrease your discomfort and identify the root cause of your pain.  Depending on the severity of your pain, this is the point you would traditionally be given a directive from the doctor to rest, ice, compress, and elevate the area if possible.  Due to research we know that there is elements of this protocol that should be utilized but on its own it is not the best approach to decrease recovery time.   Our goal is to progress you out of the acute care stage of treatment and into active as soon as possible.

Phase 2: Active/Corrective Care

During the corrective care phase you will start off with treatment’s that could include- DNS, Graston, ART, Normatec, McKenzie and Hyperice.  This corrective care is targeted at addressing any movement deficiencies or muscle imbalances.  This is achieved through active patient care.  We do not believe in passive care unless pain levels dictate analgesic care.  When you have achieved the proper range of motion, balance, agility, coordination, and stability you will be ready to progress into the next phase of care.

Phase 3: Sport/Goal Specific Training combined with RECOVERY

Once you are out of pain and functionally moving properly, you will be referred to Athletic Architect where, Dan Riser will put you through a very complete and specific movement screening process.  Dan will then talk to Dr. DiSanti and you will be given a blueprint for how you can take your ability to the next level.  This training will inevitably leave your muscles fatigued and soreness will set in.  Lactic acid is a byproduct of your muscles burning energy and we offer Normatic compression therapy, that can be used in our Recovery Room.  The Recovery Room is a private room where you can use the Normatice compression machine while watching television or surfing the internet.  There is an array of other products that are also offered in our Recovery Room.

GRASTON

Combined with exercise, Graston helps break up scar tissue or muscle “knots,” which increases range of motion of joints, helps facilitate and quicken the healing process, increases the strength of muscle fibers, and reduces pain.

Chiropractic Care

Facial Release

Both active and passive fascial release entails identifying, isolating, and targeting the affected area to break up scar tissue. This promotes blood flow and faster healing of injuries.  Facial release can be used to treat problems with your muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves.

Sport/Goal Specific Rehabilitation

Whether it is a specific sport or goal you wish to excel at, we will develop specific exercises that will help you achieve your goals as fast as possible.  This may range from throwing a baseball harder, jumping higher, or developing core coordination in golfers, to a pregnant woman who just wants to be able to decrease her back pain.  If you are the type of person who is willing to follow through with your goals, we can help.
